Sound Design Fundamentals for
Music Producers.

Creating your own sounds is the key to authentic and powerful music production. Ableton Live offers a powerful platform for making your own sound that is unique to DAWs, incorporating a range of synthesis models, sampling and complex signal processing. This course takes you through the fundamentals of making your own original sounds using Ableton Live, whether it’s for Music Production, or Sound Design for media like film, games and apps. The course incorporates a collection of projects that you can complete to take your Sound Design skills to the next level.

Things you will learn in this course:
  • Digital and Analogue Audio Fundamentals.
  • Additive, Subtractive and FM Synthesis.
  • Sample-based Sound Design.
  • Custom Audio Effect Racks.
  • Max for Live API Device Integration.
  • Complex Signal Flow in Ableton Live.
  • Ableton’s Operator, Analog, Simpler, Sampler, Instrument and Drum Racks in detail.
When and where does the course happen?
  • Classes are usually on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings at 6.30, and are scheduled according to demand.

  • You will need to bring your own Mac or PC laptop, charger and headphones, with at least a Demo version of Ableton Live installed. We can provide these items in-class if you give us 24 hours notice, and we can hire them to you for the duration of the course for an additional fee.
  • A basic understanding of the fundamentals of Ableton Live use is highly recommended for this course. If you are a little rusty on Live skills, you may like to book a 1-on-1 lesson with us to scrub up your skills.
